Picture this… stunning beaches, soft, powdery white sand, crystal-clear turquoise waters, surrounded by lush green hills offering a perfect blend of natural serenity and breathtaking views. Does this sound like somewhere you would like, scratch that, need to visit? Then you’re in the right place and should keep reading. My recent voyage on the luxurious Emerald Sakara super yacht through the Caribbean was nothing short of incredible. Join me as I recount the unparalleled experience of sailing in opulence and indulging in the epitome of luxury.

The Sakara is Emerald’s newest luxury ocean superyacht added to the fleet at the tail end of 2023. The ship hosts up to only 100 passengers with a crew of 76 – making for an exclusive and intimate journey. The gorgeous sleek, modern interior with chrome and glass finish provides the perfect amount of extravagance without going over the top.

Onboard are spacious cabins – all of which have an ocean view, three bars and lounges, a jacuzzi, infinity pool, multiple open deck spaces, and a watersports platform. There is truly something for everyone. The highlight of my mornings was having my coffee and breakfast on the open outdoor patio with the incredible views of the Caribbean.

As I mentioned, the crew to guest ratio is nearly 1:1; this really allowed me to get to know the members of the crew and for them me. Their dedication to providing top-notch service was a standout feature of my trip. From the moment I stepped aboard, I was greeted with warm smiles and a level of hospitality that exceeded expectations. I should also mention the bridge is open 24 hours for guests to explore. The Captain and his team welcomed us onto the bridge, answered all our questions and shared fascinating facts about the navigational system. As silly as it may sounds, this personal touch made me feel like I was on my own personal yacht.

Our voyage encompassed a carefully curated itinerary, showcasing the Caribbean's most breathtaking locales. We departed San Juan, Puerto Rico and stopped in St. Thomas, Vieques, St. John, Tortola, Virgin Gorda and ended our voyage in St. John, Antigua. We had some last-minute weather-related changes so our itinerary shifted some, but the captain and crew did everything possible to ensure our replacement stop was just as pleasing as the one planned. The yacht's flexibility allowed us to explore hidden coves, pristine beaches, and charming coastal towns, providing an intimate connection with the region.

Dining aboard the Sakara was always a delight. Breakfast and lunch were served gourmet buffet style, with more options than anyone could eat at a time. Dinner, on the other hand, offered a carefully curated menu, with something different to try each night. The pumpkin soup stole the show in my opinion, as I am still thinking about it a month later. Beer and wine were paired with lunch and dinner, and of course, cocktails were available to order any time.

The yacht offered an abundance of recreational activities, ensuring our days were filled with excitement. Each port offered a few different pre-crafted excursions from train rides to hikes along the beach to the use of e-bikes to explore the local scene – truly something for everyone. Onboard, a fitness center, sky bar and the indoor observation deck, which offered games, books, and a TV (although I can’t say I ever saw anyone using it), catered to every guest's preference. The spa included salon services as well as facials, massages and access to a sauna. I was able to get into a 60-minute full body and scalp massage and it was utterly divine – I cannot recommend the experience enough.

In retrospect, this luxury yacht trip through the Caribbean was an incredible journey into a world of unparalleled beauty and extravagance. The memories of breathtaking sunsets, the laughter shared with fellow travelers, and the seamless blend of adventure and relaxation will forever be cherished. For those seeking the epitome of luxury in the Caribbean, this yacht experience is nothing short of perfection.

Sure, vacations are for relaxing. But they’re also for spending time together and making lasting memories. Looking to plan that bucket list vacation? Consider one of these epic experiences for a trip your kids will never forget.

African Safari
Seeing an elephant or giraffe in its natural habitat is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Lots of safari lodges roll out the red carpet for families, with onsite kids’ programming and education centers that teach young ones about things like bush cooking and orienteering. Guests at Camp Jabulani, located within the Kapama Private Game Reserve in South Africa, can interact with its herd of rescued elephants and arrange bush walks and helicopter tours. Another option is The Big Five Family Safari Package at the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti includes two half-day game drives, a family cooking class and a hot air balloon safari (for ages 7 and up). Taking in the towering skyscrapers, bright lights of Times Square, and iconic beauty of the Statue of Liberty is a must for anyone. And there’s nothing quite like your first Broadway show.

The 11-day “Journey through the Clouds” excursion travels between Vancouver and Calgary and offers plenty of soft adventure ideal for families, including canoeing on Lake Louise and a raft float on the Bow River in Banff.

Hawaii
The Hawaiian islands aren’t just for honeymooning; they’re also a prime location for an unforgettable family vacation. Volcanoes and black-sand beaches provide an otherworldly backdrop for luaus and other cultural experiences. Get off the beaten path at Four Seasons Resort Lanai. Its complimentary Kids for All Seasons program helps little ones learn about the island (the chain’s smallest inhabited island) and Hawaiian history through activities such as making leis and exploring tide pools. Families with young movie buffs might want to check in to the Princeville Resort on Kauai’s North Shore. It recently debuted an exclusive movie set tour that takes participants (ages 9 and up) to filming locations for blockbusters such as Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

When most think of Hawaii, they think Waikiki Beach, the North Shore, and Honolulu. All three are found on the island of Oahu. Although not the largest of the islands, Oahu is the most populated. More direct flights from the mainland arrive through Honolulu, making it the easiest island to get to (and often times, the cheapest).
Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa is perfectly situated on a stunning cove in Ko'Olina. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, this makes Aulani the perfect hangout for families who want to enjoy what Hawaii has to offer with some Disney magic thrown in.

There are 60 national parks in the United States, ranging from well-known spots such as Grand Canyon National Park to less-frequented gems like Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota.
