Nestled at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, Los Cabos unfolds its beauty across three distinct zones: Cabo San Lucas, San José del Cabo, and the picturesque coastal highway linking the two, known as the Tourist Corridor.

Welcoming travelers to this beautiful retreat is the San José del Cabo International Airport, conveniently located just three miles from San José del Cabo and approximately twenty miles from Cabo San Lucas.

Los Cabos melds a symphony of desert, coastal beauty, and rugged mountains, flanked by the expansive Pacific Ocean to the west and the Gulf of California, known as the Sea of Cortéz, to the east. This haven boasts a sun-soaked, arid climate and breathtaking vistas, a transformation that has elevated the small fishing village into a haven for myriad resorts, hotels, and holiday abodes. Stretching from Cabo San Lucas all the way to the emerging coastal realm north of the airport, aptly named the East Cape, this transformation has been nothing short of remarkable.

WHAT TO DO:

Los Cabos thrives with a plethora of water sports: sportfishing, snorkeling, swimming, diving, sailing, and surfing. On solid ground, golf and tennis capture attention. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and camel excursions offer a deeper connection to the surroundings. At night, a vivacious nightlife scene emerges, accompanied by the pleasures of dining at refined restaurants or cozy cafés.

Running from December to April, the whale watching season unfolds, featuring the journey of humpback whales during their migration. February brings about the animated presence of calf whales. It's a time when boat expeditions offer up-close encounters with these magnificent beings. When summer graces the region, don't miss the chance to spot whale sharks. Shed any apprehension – you can actually snorkel alongside these gentle giants.

The celebration of San José, the patron saint of San José del Cabo, comes alive from March 14 to 19. During this period, the town buzzes with parades, carnivals, lively dances, delectable food, exuberant parties, traditional attire, captivating entertainment, and traditional music.

As autumn approaches, October and November bring
sportfishing tournaments to the forefront. The calendar remains full throughout the year with a rich tapestry of music and film festivals, delectable food and wine affairs, exciting competitions, and observances of religious holidays, painting Los Cabos with an eventful palette.

THINGS TO KNOW:

  • The Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortéz meet at the southern tip of Baja where El Arco (The Arch), a rock formation, rises from the sea. The surf on the Pacific side is quite rough, and the Sea of Cortéz is calm, although there can be strong currents. Before jumping in, be sure you're at a safe swimmable beach.

  • Timeshare sales people at the airport can be quite aggressive as you pass, and drivers will approach offering to take you to your hotel. It's advisable to arrange transportation in advance through your hotel or a reliable local service.

  • Although the currency is the Mexican peso, U.S. dollars and major credit cards are accepted almost everywhere. It is possible to obtain pesos at the airport upon arrival, through ATMs, or at some hotels.

  • Tipping is customary in Mexico at bars, restaurants, spas, and at hotels for assistance with bags or other services. It is considerate to leave something for hotel housekeepers each day. Tour guides should also receive a gratuity. At restaurants and spas, the typical amount is 10-20%. For others, the equivalent of what you would leave in the U.S. is appropriate.
